Swimming

Hi everyone,

This weeks theme for Tag Tuesday is " Swimming".  I decided to use an old photo of my sister from our childhood in a snazzy swimsuit..It was taken on-board the ship the Canberra as we sailed home to England from Australia where we emigrated to in the sixties. For the background I used a  page from an atlas showing  Australia which I painted with gesso and pale blue acrylic paint and sponged it back off again to reveal the image underneath.

I used a harlequin stamp from Indigo Blu to reflect the pattern on the swimsuit and the fish is an image from The Graphic Fairy.

There are lots of lovely tags over on the Tag Tuesday blog. If you haven't seen them yet just click on the link above and take a look.

My friend stopped by today to pick up the textile picture that I featured in my last post. I am glad to say that she was pleased with it and has asked me to do another for a friend, based on the one that is currently on show in the exhibition  that  I  mentioned in a previous post.  So I will post a picture of it when it  is completed.

There are so many things going around in my head that I want to do. I still haven't had chance to have a good play with my new Pan Pastels, I still have to finish off my little sketch book that I started at a workshop the other week and I am STILL wanting to make an Art Journal to do some Mixed Media work  If anyone who reads this can tell me what surface is best to work on in a mixed media journal I would be very grateful if you could let me know. I contacted one of my favourite mixed media artists Donna Downey and she told me she uses a certain make of card stock but I couldn't seem to find a supplier in the uk.

As you may have seen in one of my previous posts my blog was unavailable for a short time but the problem was sorted out for me by blogger . But I feel that because of that I may have lost some of you who used to stop by to take a look at what I have been doing.  If you have visited I would love it if you left a comment to let me know.

Till the next time,

Bye for now x

  1. Gorgeous tag as always, Fuzzie! I love the way you've matched the stamp and the swimsuit design, and it's got a lovely nostalgic feel about it. The background map is a triumph with the gesso - a lovely subtle effect - must try this!

I do hope you haven't lost any loyal followers/visitors since your blog went down. People don't know what they are missing!

Paper for mixed media: I recently bought a big pad of heavy watercolour paper - Canson Montval Aquarelle 200 gsm (100 lb) 24x32 cm (9 3/8 x 12 1/2 in) Maxi Pack of 100 sheets, and also 10 sheets in a pack of Pittura acrylic paper (400 gsm/185 lb), 40x50 cm (15 3/4 x 19 1/2 in). I haven't used any of the latter yet, but am using the former for my Fine Art album (details on my blog) and it stands up very well to the rigours of mixed media treatment!

Both these papers are smooth finish (not textured), heavy weight watercolour or acrylic papers, so will stand getting wet without disintigrating. Anything along these lines should do. I know that you can also buy ready-made journals for mixed media work, which will presumably be made of suitable paper similar to this.

If you've got a local art shop, pop in and ask them what they've got. That's what I did.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with your new pan pastels.

Thanks for your lovely comment - I was pleased with how the faux porcelain turned out. I hope to try out my new Dylusions inks soon!

  2. Thanks for your visit to my blog, Fuzzie - so glad the watercolour paper info was helpful. Really, any fairly substantial watercolour paper should stand up to mixed media.

I know that when you eventually get these inks, you'll have such fun with them, and create more of your awesome magic! Hope you enjoy your new pan pastels as much as I'm enjoying the inks!

I think I overdid it, playing yesterday. I'm having a total rubbish day today, doing nothing except flop on the recliner and try and catch up with all my blog comments.

  3. I have just nominated you for the versatile blogger award, Fuzzie. This is in recognition of how much I enjoy visiting your blog, and for all the inspiration you have given me.

I notice in your profile you say you are an "aspiring" textile and mixed media artist. I think you should delete that word! Nothing aspiring about it - you ARE a textile and mixed media artist, and don't let anyone tell you you're not.

  4. You're welcome, Fuzzie, and don't worry about passing the nomination on to someone else. It doesn't matter if you don't take it up - all I had to do was nominate people, not make sure they passed it on. Even if you don't have enough people involved to nominate, accept my nomination as an award in itself!!

I had one other award ages ago, and nothing till now. Some people refuse them altogether because they do involve a bit of work - all that nominating others - a bit like a chain letter. That's the aspect I'm not so keen about, but it is an opportunity to thank others for all their inspiration - and that certainly applies to you!

I am just sorry that people aren't yet flocking to your blog to admire your beautiful work and leave comments. It does take a bit of time to get known in Blogland - mine was very slow to start with, but once you get known by a few, it starts to snowball. This has certainly happened with me since I joined WOYWW - regular blog hops help, I think. It does take a certain amount of dedication though! If I didn't spend so long on the computer and especially in Blogland, I'd get a lot more creating done lol!!

So don't worry about the award. As far as I'm concerned, you've got it anyway.
