It's a Cover Up

I am currently working on a 5x7" canvas board. I started by covering it withe book papers and other collage pieces.

I wish I could get used to randomly laying down collage but I still can't help pondering about what pieces to use. I don't know why because by the time I have finished I have obliterated them with paint.

I have watched many videos on line of artists using this technique and they keep laying down layers of collage, then paint, then more collage and more paint. I need to work on this technique a little more. I think I am too eager to get  finished.

It is still a work in progress but this is how it looks now.

I hope you will pop back and see her when she is finished. x

Linking to Paint Party Friday.

  1. I will definitly pop back to see her finished! Lol and I know what you mean with the collage process... me to... oh gosh and so often I do four or five layers over it...

best is to work on different pieces at one time.. and do a little there and a little there..
just playing around- for me mostly then come the best pieces in the end...

    happy weekend ...

  4. I always like your people paintings. This collage/paint/collage/paint and so on is a bit of a mystery for me too, but you seem to be doing fine.

  5. Ooh, I think this is fabulous!! I too struggle with collage. I kind of think, what's the point putting the layers on if they're going to be covered over, lol. I'm looking forward to seeing her finished ~ I love her hair :) x

  7. I love how this is developing. (I have the same problems with collage/layering....it's either not enough or way too much! LOL)

  8. Great stuff, Fuzzie. I love watching projects evolve and emerge from their raw materials. Layers, layers and more layers! Such fun, so creative!

  11. Your little girl looks sweet and I like the bright colours. I have trouble with collage too. I think the secret is to not cover everything up but let small pieces of the background shine through ... It depends on what you want though. If you just want to use the collage to get some texture it doesn't really matter how and what you layer on there ... Coming back to see how you finished her!

  12. I like this very much - I understand about collage - you can rarely see much of the paper I lay down by the time I am finished

  13. She is lovely. I am one who often works with many layers. I like knowing they are there even if in the end you do not see them. Usually I apply another layer if the current layer seems incomplete or calls for it. I find it very satisfying and like that there are no mistakes in the process.
