Fairyland.

I was hoping to do a 'Fantasy Scene' for Art Journal Journey but won't get it finished for this months challenge for reasons mentioned in previous posts.

I know I said I was taking a break. (so give me a slap on my good hand). I am really, but I thought I would try and accomplish something by doing a little at a time.

This is how it looks so far.

I know it doesn't look much at the moment but I thought I would post today and at least share the idea behind it. I was watching a programme on antiques and was inspired by the beautiful iridescent colours of a  Fairyland Lustre bowl.

I have an idea for this piece going around in my head and it is so frustrating that I can't get it down on paper except for little by little with my left hand.

The tubes of paint in the picture give you an idea of the colours I plan to use.  I have a small selection of Lumiere paints that will come in handy for this piece. The little bottle in the above photo is Halo Blue Gold and below are some others that may come in handy for this piece.

Follow the link above and see some images of the Fairyland Lustreware and hopefully you can get a feel for what I hope to achieve......eventually that is.

I am linking this post to Paint Party Friday............well there is some paint on the page .Lol !!

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR BEST WISHES XXXX

WOYWW

I am afraid that my desk is looking a little boring this week.

You can see on the left my feeble attempt to try and put a collage together so I would have something to post. but my sore thumb was not up to it. I am afraid it has got worse and am waiting to hear from the hospital for an appointment.

So I am sorry to say I am forced to take a break from creating for a while. It is so frustrating. I am just itching to get on with painting something but I can't even hold a pen/pencil.

I hope it won't be to long before I have something new to show you.

Bye for now. x

Simply Abstract

Something simple today for Paint Party Friday.

Spring Flowers in Abstract

For this piece I was inspired by a tutorial I saw on a lovely blog called Clarity & Blur. I was drawn to it's simplicity which is ideal for me at the moment.

I have been overwhelmed by all the get well wishes for a speedy recovery and I send out a big THANK YOU to those of you that  have wished me well.
I am linking this post to both Paint Party Friday and Mix it Monthly. If you would like to see the work of other bloggers taking part click on the badges in the side-bar.

Thanks for visiting. x

WOYWW 250

Hello there,

This is how my desk looks this week.

This is how it has looked for the past few days because I have been unable to do any more to this journal page because I'm afraid my thumb has got worse again. I was tempted too early into using it again. The figure was drawn with my non-dominant hand but the damage was done when it came to the collage pieces as I needed to use my right hand for the cutting and the gluing.  So I am afraid it has come to a stand still.

I want to say, once again, a BIG THANK YOU to all of you that  have stopped by and been kind enough to leave a comment. And I would like to say WELCOME to new followers to my blog.

Thank you for visiting. x

Finger Painting

If you saw my last post, in which I showed the beginnings of this piece, you will know that this little lady has been painted with my fingers rather than with a paint brush.

I used a brush just to put a couple of touches to the eye lids and eyebrows and a pencil just to outline the tip of the nose, the chin and neckline.

For this face I was influenced by the work of the talented artist Lynne Hoppe. I feel that I am guilty of being too 'precise'  in my art work and I am striving  to achieve a 'looser' feel. Painting with my fingers has basically forced me to paint in a loser style because you don't have the same control over where the paint goes.

But it didn't stop me from trying Lol!

I am linking this post to PPF although it is Thursday today because I won't have time tomorrow. I know that there is a theme this week of something party..ish for PPF's anniversary so I am sorry she doesn't comply with the theme but I hope you like her anyway.

If you want to see what it is all about click on the badge in the side-bar.

I want to take this opportunity to THANK everyone that has left 'Get Well Wishes' for the recovery of my sore thumb. It has improved a little. x

WOYWW 249

Hi there,

This is how my work desk is looking today.

I am still struggling with my sore thumb. I really should have a break (Aah!)  from creating as it is very painful to use a pencil / paint brush.  I have been looking at other ways to produce something at least. Like at the latter stages of 29 Faces I tried out using my non-dominant hand (left). This time I thought I would try painting just with my fingers instead of holding a paint brush.

This is how she looks up to now (Not very pretty at this stage).  I used a pencil to roughly sketch out the head shape and features but held it like you would a stick which I know is the way some artists hold their pencils. I usually hold it like you would if you were writing. I only used a paint brush for the eye brows and lids and the rest was done with my fingers.

I'm not sure how she is going to turn out but we'll see.

Thank you to all who have visited and for all the lovely comments they are very much appreciated and bring me great joy. x

Only Just Made It.

During the 29 faces challenge I experimented with oil pastels and I enjoyed working with them. So today I thought I would get them out again and have a play.

I covered a book page with gesso, collaged on a torn piece of wrapping paper and used oil pastels, acrylic and inktense pencils.

As I am new to working with oil pastels I struggle with them a bit and at one stage I thought she wasn't going to make it to completion, hence the title of this post. There was a time when if I wasn't happy with something I would throw it away and start again. However, something I have learned  is that it is possible to  re-work things until you are happy with them.

The Cherry Blossom Tree.

Recently I have branched out and joined a host of challenges and I am  really enjoying the experience and made some new blogger friends. The latest challenge, for which this is my first entry, is 'Art Journal Journey' and the theme for this month is 'a Fantasy Scene'.

When I was six years old my family emigrated to Australia and lived there for three and a half years. I lived  first in Ballarat and then in Melbourne. Ballerat was in the 'outback' and the post for the area where I lived was delivered by air to a small airport not far from where we lived.

To get there you had to walk through what was left of an old airbase. All that was left was the cement floors of the buildings that were once there but there were also lots of Cherry Blossom trees. They were a beautiful sight and that memory is one of the strongest memories I have from my childhood.

So my 'Fantasy Scene' is myself  at the age of six standing under a cherry blossom tree in the warm sun.

Unfortunately, my tree does not do those beautiful trees justice. To create the blossoms I mixed acrylic paint with light modelling  paste to create more texture. It has not turned out as I had hoped but at least it gives the illusion of a cherry blossom tree.

I am linking this to both PPF and Art Journal Journey.

Thank you for visiting x

Feels like Spring

On my quest to venture further out into blogland  I have linked up to a few challenges (see the buttons in my sidebar.) I have just completed the 29 faces challenge and whilst visiting some new blogs I have come across some other challenges. One of which is Mix it up Monthly which is hosted by Piarom.

Each month you are given a theme and a selection of colours for inspiration. This month the theme is ABSTRACT. After the intensity of producing a face of day I thought it would be nice to play around with an abstract painting.

These are the colours for this month.

It was sunny today and it felt like a lovely spring day and I think this is reflected in my spring-like abstract painting.

This was a great opportunity to use my brand new box of paints.

As you will know, if you are a frequent visitor to my blog. you will have seen me mention before that I am a bit of a technophobe I see that the link tool used for this challenge is a new one on me so I hope to be able to link up successfully.

Wish me luck! x
