29 Faces Day 28

Hi everyone,
Well today is the 28th day of the month (the last of Feb) and this is my 28th face.

I am still nursing my sore thumb but didn't want to do another face with my left hand so I thought I would have to miss today. But I couldn't resist so I just grabbed a piece of paper, my inktense, pencil and doodled this face for today. The paper is a bit wrinkly from the water because it was just copy paper.

I am a bit disappointed because I wanted to end the challenge with a bang but I think is is going to be with a whimper because of my hand. However I have a sketch that I did a few days ago which I wanted to paint and because of my hand it is unfinished but I will post it today as my 29th face and I will show her again when she is finished.

Face 29

Aah! 29 Faces challenge is now complete. What to do now? I know...........the housework!!

I have loved seeing everyone's faces. During this challenge I have tried new mediums and new styles and I think my artwork has improved as a result. If anyone has not taken part I urge you to have a go next time. Sometimes it feels like a hard slog but I am really glad I did it.

Thank you to all who have visited and I hope you will continue to stop by.

I am also linking this post to Paint Party Friday. x

29 Faces day 27

My face today is another one done with my non dominant hand.

I just went straight for the oil pastels this time without drawing her in pencil first.

Not long left now on the 29 Faces challenge only two more faces to go.x

29 Faces day 26

My second post today.
Today's face is something very different for me. Over the last couple of days the thumb joint in my right hand has been very painful.  Although I hate to admit it I think it's because I have been holding a pencil and paint brush etc more often than usual.

So today I decided to use only my non dominant hand (my left). In the past I have seen artists' work produced in this way and in fact I have seen artists taking part in this challenge using their non dominant hand. I have tried it a couple of times before but with terrible results but ,not for the first time in this challenge, I have amazed myself. It didn't turn out too bad.

I used pencil and oil pastels. I only have a cheap set of oil pastels and the more I use them the more I would love to try the more expensive creamy ones that are on the market. Another must have for my ever growing list of  new materials.

When I look at her, I can't believe she was done totally with my non dominant hand.

This is what she looked like before I added the colour.

I've got a very busy couple of days coming up so not sure what I am going to be able to manage. I may have to play catch up at the weekend.

Bye for now. x

Two for the Price of One.

Oh dear! I didn't manage to post in time for yesterday. Still, I am pleased that I have managed to keep up with my faces as well as I have done.

When I first came across the 29 Faces challenge last year I was a bit scared to join in (that sounds drastic doesn't it?) because:

 a)  I wasn't sure how to link up (as I'm not very technically minded)

and

b) I didn't think I was capable of working quick enough to complete a face a day.

But all the information you need to link up is over on the blog and following the instructions  is easy. So if you missed out on the challenge this time for one or both of the above reasons then click on the button in the sidebar and read all about the challenge and I recommend you have a go next time.

Well, today I am playing catch up and have two faces for you.

Face no. 24

Face no. 25

Before I participated in this challenge I would never have completed both these faces in such a short space of time.

No time for procrastination in the 29 Faces Challenge. x

29 Faces day 23

Just a sketch for today's face.

Looking at it here I can see that she needs some adjustment to her shoulder but I can correct that.
Thanks for visiting. x

29 Faces day 22

For today's face I have a 'Bathing Belle '' complete with her floral swimming cap.

The beach ball and the background are in Lumiere paints.  Unfortunately the camera does not pick up the shimmery effect you get from these paints. Other materials used are acrylics, inktense pencils, Sharpie fine tip pens (for her eyes) and my ever growing favourite charcoal pencil.

She has turned out to be one of my favourite faces to date.

Thank you to all who have visited and a BIG THANK YOU to all of you that have been kind enough to leave a comment. I really appreciate and value your thoughts. x

29 Faces and PPF!!

Oops! I didn't manage to post my face for 29 faces yesterday so today I have two faces for you.

Face no 20

For this face I used acrylic, inktense pencils and charcoal pencil.

Face no 21

This is a simple pencil sketch as I have another busy day today and I don't want to fall behind. It means that  I will have more time to spend on tomorrows face and to visit other bloggers taking part in this challenge and Paint Party Friday.

I am linking this page to both 29 Faces and Paint Party Friday. Click on the badges in the sidebar to find out more.

Bye for now x

29 Faces day 19

Back again. Two posts in one day that's a first for me.
Today's face is in charcoal which means  a face done in a hurry.

I think she's looking a bit tired.  (She looks how I feel). Lol!

I have enjoyed working in charcoal and I was thinking that it would be great if you could get coloured charcoal pencils. Then the other day what did I see but tinted charcoal pencils. They were a bit expensive so I think they will be going on my next Christmas list.

There are so many other materials that I need at the moment. I am scraping the bottom of the barrel literally  on my Gesso and my Gel Medium and the next thing on my list is a lovely box of Liquitex acrylics that I have spotted in my local shop.

Ah well, tomorrows another day. Another day, another face.

Bye for now x

WOYWW 246

Hi Everyone,

Lately I have not been working in my studio but on a little table downstairs as I have been working in a little sketchbook which I have been using for most of my faces for the 29 Faces Challenge .

This is my temporary work desk after completing yesterday's face.

If you are visiting and don't know about WOYWW click on the badge in the sidebar and take a look at other peoples desks.

Hopefully I will be back with a second post today for 29 Faces (two posts in one day?  that's a first for me).I hope you can visit again to take a look.

Bye for now x

29 Faces day 18

I'm very late in posting today as I had a problem connecting to the internet earlier for some reason.

Something a little bit different today. This little face has a body to go with it.

I covered the page with pieces of book text then applied layers of gesso and watered down Burnt Umber acrylic. The little girl is in pencil and acrylic.

I am really enjoying seeing all the different faces by all the talented artists taking place in the this challenge. If you are wondering what 29 Faces is all about click on the badge in the sidebar and take a look.

Back tomorrow with another x

29 Faces day 17

Today I wanted to just create a quick face in a loose style (something I find very difficult).  However, one of the reasons I took part in the 29 Faces challenge was to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I decided to use just my little tin of water colours .

I just penciled in an oval shape for the face and loosely marked out where the facial features would go. I am not used to painting with water colour and I probably broke all the rules in the water colour rule book but this is how it turned out.

In order to produce a face a day they are all pretty rushed which is something new for me. I never thought I would manage it but I am still here.

Thanks for visiting and for your comments. They are very much appreciated. x

Sunday 16 February 2014

29 Faces day 16

I very nearly presented another sketch today but I was itching to paint so I brought my paints and pencils down from my studio and settled down in front of the television (again).

Today I used acrylics, inktense pencils, Lumiere paints (for the background) and oil pastels (for touching up).

Although these next two faces don't count in the 29 Faces Challenge I couldn't resist sharing them with you.

These are my two little cuties Rosey and Millie. Millie's keeping her paw on the ball.

Thank you so much for the get well wishes. x

29 Faces no.15

Hi Everyone,

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today so today's face was just a little doodle with my Stabilo permanent ink pen done while having a restful day in front of the television.

I don't know where the idea for her came from but looking at her now I think I will use her as a basis for future piece that I can spend more time perfecting.

Thank you for visiting. x

A Face Still in Progress

This is a mixed media  piece I had been working on but I put it aside as I was unsure how to add some butterflies. Should I paint my own ? Or use some  printed images.

I had a sheet of butterflies that I printed off a while ago. They were a free download but I can't remember were from. So I cut them out and positioned them on and I have decided to use them. I may enhance them a little with a touch of paint.

The background is made up of  a collage of patterned papers gesso, acrylic, Distress ink and oil pastels. Her dress is cut from one of my painted papers. I still have her facial features and her hair to complete but I thought I would share her for Paint Party Friday and as today's face no. 14 for 29 Faces.

If you want to see some lovely work from other's taking part in Paint Party Friday and 29 Faces click on the badges in the sidebar.

29 Faces Days 12&13

Yes, it had to happen eventually.........

I missed posting yesterday but I have two quick sketches today.

Face no.12

Face no. 13

These faces are done in pencil for speed but I really want to do another painting or  have another go with oil pastels. But I need to take more time over them. Maybe I'll  have a better chance of finding the time over the weekend.

Thanks for visiting x

29 Faces day11

Have you heard of a bad hair day? Well I am having a bad face day.

I had very little time today so I wanted to try and just scribble a face down with no touching up or refining and this is the result. The orange and green is ink and the face is in Inktense pencil. I sprayed the drawing with water and let the pencil run a little.

Out of all the faces I have done so far this is the one I like the least. In fact I almost didn't post it but it was either that or no face at all and I want to try and post a face each day.

Tomorrow is a very busy day for me too so I might fall at the next hurdle.Hope not!

Fingers crossed for a face tomorrow. x

29 Faces Day 10

Just a short post today.

Today's face was done in charcoal pencil and acrylics with a diluted black ink background.

I just want to add how pleased I was to receive a comment from Lynne Hoppe on yesterdays face which I did using techniques I picked up from a tutorial over on her blog.

I want to send a BIG THANK YOU to all who have been visiting to take a peek at my faces and all your comments are much appreciated.

Bye for now. x

Sunday 9 February 2014

29 Faces Day 9

I'm  later than usual posting today's face but I got there  in the end.

Those of you that saw my last post will know that I am experimenting with oil pastels. I asked if anyone had any tips on working with oil pastels and Morag over at Paper Rainbow pointed me in the direction of a tutorial by the very talented artist Lynne Hoppe. I was already aware of her work but some how missed the tutorial so I popped over to take a look and decided to give her technique a try.

The materials I used were oil pastels, gouache and watercolour paint, coloued pencils and charcoal pencil. Something that  I wasn't aware of until now was that you could use oil pastels and watercolour paint together. This technique results in a much lighter looking piece compared to my last face which was done in oil pastels alone.

I need lots more practice but I am looking forward to trying it out again.

See you tomorrow. x

Saturday 8 February 2014

29 Faces Day 8

For today's face I thought I would have another go at using oil pastels. It is not a medium I am used too so  I found it difficult to get a result I was happy with.

I know her eyes need more work but the pastels are so chunky that, at this size,  it is hard to be so precise in applying the pastel and I was afraid of spoiling her altogether

The pastels I have are only a cheap set. I know that the more expensive oil pastels are more creamy and easier to work with but I think I need more practice before I consider investing in a more expensive set.

I think she looks like a sad ballerina.

If  anyone is used to working in oil pastels I would welcome any tips.

Bye for now x

29 Faces Day 7

Hello there,
To everyone from Paint Party Friday I am linking this post to both Paint Party Friday and 29 Faces. For anyone that would like to see what the 29 Faces Challenge  is all about click on the button on the sidebar.

Today's face is in acrylic.charcoal pencil and oil pastel. The background paper is 'one I prepared earlier'. I hadn't used it until now because I didn't like it much but when you have to produce a face a day time is of the essence so I grabbed it and added a face and now I don't think it looks that bad.

The butterfly wings were cut from an image from The Graphics Fairy.

Thank you to all who have visited and for your lovely comments. There are so  many talented artists in these challenges and I try to visit as many as I can. If I have missed you I am sure I will catch up with you soon.

Bye for now x

Thursday 6 February 2014

29 Faces Day 6

Today's face is another one  I created much quicker than I am used to. For this face I decided to use oil pastels. A medium that I have only used in the past to enhance my pictures.

I have wanted to work on brown paper for a while now but I think I have used the wrong side I used the rough side and so the pastel has accentuated the lines. I also found it very difficult  to do the features of the face in pastel as she had to be small enough to fit in the small book I am using for my 29 faces challenge.

I enjoyed working in oil pastel so I must have a go at doing a larger piece .

Thanks for visiting. x

29 Faces Day 5

One of the aims of joining in with the 29 Faces challenge was to try and spend less time on perfecting my faces. Today's face was done in charcoal pencil and I only spent less than ten minutes on her.

Some might say 'You can tell' but I am quite proud of her.

I am loving all the different techniques used by the artists taking part in this challenge. If you are not part of this challenge and you are looking for lots of inspiration click on the link in the side bar and take a look.

Back tomorrow with another. x

29 Faces day 4

Hi Everyone,

Today my face is a pencil sketch. It is very different from the faces I have been doing recently.

I had trouble with her mouth and it still isn't right. But I left it in the end because it came to a point where I couldn't erase it anymore with out spoiling it altogether.

Thank you for visiting. Back tomorrow with another. x

29 Faces Day 3

Hi there,
For today's face I went back to working in acrylic.

I outlined the eyes, nose and lips with a Stabilo fine permanent pen. But on reflection I wish I had used the charcoal pencil that I used on her eyebrows to outline her lips as the pen is to harsh.

It is great being part of this challenge and I am enjoying all the lovely comments. A BIG THANK YOU to you all .

29 Faces Day 2

Hello there!

I decided to get my coloured pencils out for face no. 2.

I liked the way she looked at this stage so I decided to leave her with just her face coloured in. Which I thought was also appropriate as the focal point of this challenge is the face.

Thanks to all who visited here yesterday and for the lovely comments. I am sorry if you were put off by the word verification thingy. I wasn't aware that it was turned on. I have turned it off now so hopefully you will have no problem.

Well I am off  to check out what everyone else has been up to.
See you tomorrow x

29 Faces Challenge Day 1

Hi Everyone,
This is it the first day of the 29 Faces Challenge. I am a bit nervous, as creating one face a day is a big challenge for me because I tend to spend too much time pondering over my work.

For those of you that are part of Paint Party Friday you will have seen the beginnings of this face. If not you can see her here. She looks very different now.

.

Many fantastic artists take part in this challenge and if you want to take a look follow the link above
Hope to see you back here tomorrow for  face no.2 .xx
