I know she doesn't look very happy but the reason for my moment of happiness can be seen on top of her head.
Acrylic and a touch of oil pastel |
Perched on her head is a robin. There is a little story of my late Mum and a robin which is dear to me and when I see a robin I feel closer to her and that is my 'moment of happiness.'
The reason for the different texture you can see in her face is because I began by adhering book and patterned papers to the canvas. This is the first time I have painted on a canvas board, paper being my usual choice. This image is a good illustration of the difference in the final overall appearance but I'm still not sure which I prefer, however, I am happy with the result of this piece.

This is so adorable. I got such joy out of seeing her with the robin on her head. Reminds me of my mom too....years ago when camping a little robin befriended us and would fly on our heads or shoulders. Mom had rollers in her hair when he landed on her! I always see crows and think of my mom....she was such a bird lover! Very very pretty canvas!

ReplyDeleteHow lovely that seeing robins makes you feel connected with your mom. Makes spring even more glorious!
This is gorgeous. There is something about the robin that makes one happy, seeing a robin is always a delight. I like your painted lady standing still so as not to disturb the robin.
ReplyDeleteLovely rich coloring and texture! Happy PPF!

ReplyDeleteThat would be a moment of happiness for me too if a robin landed on my hands, though I would be a bit frightened.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet that seeing robins reminds you of your mum. What a touching and lovely picture. I am from England where they have these tiny cute robins. Now I live in USA and they are much bigger - robins on steroids. Happy PPF!

ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful personal meaning to this painting. What a great way to remember your mom. I sometimes like the look of canvas and sometimes I don't. It depends what I'm working on. But I also love seeing a comnbination of the two, like in this piece!

ReplyDeleteWonderful piece of artwork! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story behind this charming painting. I like to change up the substrate I paint on but am particularly fond of the hard surface of a cradelboard when I start with collage.
ReplyDeleteLove the canvas the little robin is so sweet. Becky x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Fuzzie! I love the expression on the girl's face as she looks up - hilarious! She looks a bit worried that the robin might leave a trademark behind lol!! My mum is a great bird lover too. Little things that remind you of a whole world of memories are so precious and I can understand why this picture expresses so well your "moment of happiness." I love what you have done with the textures and the beautiful background. It's all so warm and subtle, with just the right level of quirkiness! Well done indeedy.
